Dainty Rope Ring | Twisted Stacking Band

The twisted rope band is among the oldest forms of metalwork ring known: rope-pattern bands have been found in Bronze Age hoards across Europe and the Near East, their twisted form derived from the braided fiber rings that preceded metal jewelry by millennia. The twist is not decorative in origin. It is structural — braided fiber is stronger than single-strand fiber, and the metal form carries that structural logic into a material that does not need it, because the form itself had already become meaningful before the material changed.
