The double horn, two crescents joined at their tips, appears across Mediterranean archaeological sites from the Neolithic period onward. The paired bovine horns represented the lunar crescent in pre-Bronze Age religion, a time when the horns and the moon had not yet been separated into different symbols. Minoan civilization placed paired horns at the peaks of its sacred architecture, marking the threshold between the human and the divine.
