Description

The Eye of Ra is distinct from the Eye of Horus. Where the Eye of Horus marks restoration and protection, the Eye of Ra marks active divine power directed outward. Ra sent his eye into the world as an agent of his will, the eye that goes ahead of the sun, that clears what must be cleared before the light arrives. In Egyptian mythology, the Eye of Ra was also identified with several goddesses: Hathor, Sekhmet, Mut, who took on its destructive and protective functions.

The eye is not passive observation. It is the divine will made visible, directed, operative. To wear it is to carry the principle of sight that acts.
