Pluto governs what the alchemists called nigredo: the blackening, the dissolution of the existing form. Not punishment. Prerequisite. The outer boundary of the solar system marking the outer boundary of the self: the place beyond which the usual rules do not apply and transformation becomes possible. Pluto was discovered in 1930 and reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006, but its astrological tradition established it as the most consequential symbolic force in the outer solar system: the principle of transformation through dissolution.
