Taurus is the fixed earth sign: the force that builds and holds. The bull that does not move until it has decided to move, and then does not stop. In ancient Mesopotamia the bull was the animal of the storm gods, whose power was felt in the earth's trembling. The crescent horns of the bull became the crescent of the moon, linking Taurus to the lunar cycle and to the agricultural rhythms the moon governs.
