Description
The Zia sun symbol belongs to the Zia Pueblo people of New Mexico and represents the sacred number four expressed at four different scales simultaneously: the four cardinal directions, the four seasons, the four periods of the day, and the four stages of human life. All four groups of four rays are organized around a central circle that holds them in relation to one another. Where the circumpunct marks the origin, the Zia marks the order the origin produces as it moves outward into the structure of the world.
